Canvas on coal transport and urbanization in East Kalimantan

This painting shows you the contrast between economic development and nature conservation on the Mahakam River, the main river of the Indonesian province of East Kalimantan, in the east of the island of Borneo. 

You observe a barge loaded with coal, which testifies to the exploitation of the mining resources of the region. In the background, you can see houses being built on the side of the hill, which reflect the increasing urbanization of the banks of the river.
